Story of our five soaps

Palm kernel oil and Potash

Story of our five soaps

Gyadam Community

Historically, the Ghanaian black soap was produced based on only two ingredients.

This one is the oldest and basic soap recipe. Each village made its own soap based on these two ingredients, but their proportions were always and still a secret of each community.

Since we have been working in Ghana for many years, we have built very good relations with the local communities. We received this from Gyadam.

The soap making process during the years developed using many other natural ingredients in Ghana like Coconut Oil, Shea Butter, Honey.

Mainly, additional ingredients was added to the basic type of soap depending on the kind of natural ingredient available in the community.

Coconut oil

In the western region, they basically grow coconuts in some villages like Nzema, Adum Banso, Akotom – so the villagers add coconut oil to the basic soap made from Palm Kernel Oil and Potash.
